The improved N.S.C. Submariner. A vintage classic now made with modern construction.
This style remains true to the original WWII era Jumpers worn by the British Royal Navy, featuring a drop shoulder, ribbed waist and cuffs, constructed in a 5 gauge knit with the same 100% British wool. Hand linked using the fully-fashioned technique.
Visit our N.S.C History page to learn more about the Submariner.
All Jumpers are packaged in a 100% cotton drawstring branded bag.
Visit our postage and returns page for delivery information.
The Submariner is the only N.S.C. jumper to feature a drop shoulder where the shoulder seam sits on the upper arm creating a slightly more generous fit. We recommend ‘The Diver’ if you are looking for a chunkier knit roll neck with a closer fitting inset sleeve.
If you are unsure of your N.S.C. size, take a measurement around your chest at your underarm, in inches, with a soft tape measure. Our knitwear fits true to size. If you prefer a loose fit, we suggest you order a size up. Refer to the size guide for further measurements.
Available in sizes 34” - 50” (EURO 44 - 60)
Model with a 38” chest wears size 38”

N.S.C. products are designed to last for years, when cared for correctly.
In the first instance, we recommend airing your knitwear outside. Remove small stains with a cloth and cool water. Piling can be removed with a wool shaver. When a wash is necessary we suggest hand washing.
Mix a wool specific detergent with lukewarm water and swirl the garment delicately in the water. To dry, lay the garment on a flat surface and gently squeeze excess water from the wool with a towel. Do not twist or wring out a jumper. Stretch it gently to the correct size and shape before letting it air-dry laid flat. Softener can be added just before the final rinse if desired.
Although not recommended, if a machine wash is necessary, knitwear can be washed using a wool specific detergent on a cold wool cycle with a low spin. Never tumble dry.
North Sea clothing offers an extensive range of sizes providing you with the most comfortable fit. Our sizing is your chest size in inches. If you are unsure of your N.S.C size, take a measurement around your chest at your underarm in inches with a soft tape measure. Our clothing fits true to size, if you prefer a loose fit, we suggest you order a size up. Refer to the size guides below for further measurements.
Knitwear sizing is equal to the chest measurement of the garment, underarm to underarm x2 in inches.
Outerwear is sized to allow room for ease of wear. We recommend ordering the size labelled as your chest size.
We recommend comparing the measurements below to a pair of well fitting trousers you already own to ensure you order the best fit.
Our Marine Type 2 shoe is a standard to wide fit.
The chest measurement is taken from armpit to armpit on a flat surface. Length is taken from highest shoulder point to hem and sleeve is from highest shoulder point to cuff.
