British Wool
Our Men’s jumpers are all made with 100% British wool, the same yarn used for the Royal Navy Submariner jumper issued during the War Era, which inspired the creation of North Sea Clothing.
Durability
The durability of British wool is unique. It does not pill like other yarns. Natural elasticity of the British wool fibre means it will stretch with the wearer and spring back to it’s original shape.
Your NSC Jumper will keep it’s structure for years to come, and will not sag and stretch.
Naturally insulating
British wool fibres have a particularly spongy hollow texture. This traps a layer of air between the wearer and the garment for utmost insulation and sweat wicking properties. It also means that dirt and odours are less easily absorbed, so deep cleaning is required less frequently, and often hanging in a breezy space will freshen up your jumper just as well.
Sustainable
Sheep require shearing once a year to maintain optimum health and comfort, making wool a completely renewable fibre, which will also degrade naturally.
Itchy or not?
British wool is often known for being a dense and coarse wool, however differing treatments of the yarn can affect the final feel of a garment.
Our Hercosett anti shrink treatment which allows the yarn to be washed cool without shrinking, alongside the dyeing process, helps to soften the final feel.
If you are worried about the wool feeling itchy, a layer worn in between the skin and the jumper will solve that, while still reaping the indisputable benefits of our British wool.
Our wool is Oeko-Tex Standard 100 class II certified and Woolmark licensed.
Italian Merino Wool
Our Women’s jumpers are all made using 100% Italian Merino yarn.
With narrower individual fibres, our Merino has a softer feel than the British Wool used for the Men’s.
While this soft feel can often compromise the durability of a garment, in many cases allowing it to stretch and sag, we have worked hard at NSC to counter this.
NSC women’s jumpers are knitted in either double thickness jacquard, or a super dense knit, in order to maintain the shape and structure as close to the men’s knits as they can.
The general beneficial properties of wool remain almost the same.
North Sea clothing offers an extensive range of sizes providing you with the most comfortable fit. Our Men's knit garment sizing is equal to your chest size in inches, and designed for a slim fit.
If you are unsure of your N.S.C size, take a measurement around your chest at your underarm in inches with a soft tape measure. Our clothing fits true to size. If you prefer a loose fit, we suggest you order a size up.
The below chart is designed for a guide only. Please allow a degree of tolerance natural to knitted garments.
KNITWEAR
Knitwear sizing is equal to the chest measurement of the garment, underarm to underarm x2 in inches.
Outerwear is sized to allow room for ease of wear. We recommend ordering the size labelled as your chest size.
These have a generous fit with an inch extra in the waist and a relaxed seat and leg.
